We created a resource to help our instructors correct their students’ reading mistakes. These mistakes are wonderful opportunities to develop students’ skills, but they require the right kind of correction.
This tool shows instructors how to intervene in a way that is clear, efficient, and prioritized.
This particular correction protocol applies to phonetic words for which the student has been taught the relevant sound-symbol correspondences. Our resource takes the form of a flowchart that uses one word, mast, as an example.
At first glance, there may seem to be a lot of paths and responses for instructors to learn, but — after some practice — instructors internalize these steps and make them second nature. To help with that process of internalization, we produced a short video that shows what it can look and sound like to follow all of these steps.
