What our Once instructors are saying

School-based support staff provide all instruction in the Once Early-Reading Program. Here's what they have to say about the experience — in their own words.

I 💗 Once! The program has helped my students become more confident with their sounds and words. The familiar format and fun characters have created a joyful learning environment. The intimacy of the program — the proximity and the daily interaction — has helped me form even better relationships and rapport with my students.
I absolutely love the Once Program! I strongly believe the students gained a strong basis for phonics with this program. It was a wonderful program that went hand in hand with what teachers did in the classroom with their students.
I loved working with my students and seeing how far they had progressed. Reading is such an important skill, and not having a solid foundation really sets the tone for their educational path. I loved the resources available — there were times I was unsure about a concept, but I was able to look at the instructional videos to gain a better understanding.

This is an excellent program that I wish we could have again, not just for kindergarten pupils but even for students in other grade levels who need help with the foundations of reading. With fidelity and consistency, a child can really read in a short period of time through this system.
Great instructional resource for teaching reading. I loved it! I hope more special education teachers can learn to use it!
Here at our school we have seen great growth in students participating in this program. We are excited to implement it next year. One area that is challenging is finding the staff to work with the students since it is a one-on-one intervention.
I think it is a great program. Well thought out and easy to follow and institute.
I love that it's scripted for teachers. I also like the verbiage (i.e., "say it fast") and like that I can use it during my instruction during the day.

Overall, I think the program went very well this year and it was great to see students' growth with the program and my learning from delivering it as well. I am excited to see students' end-of-year DIBELS results.
As hesitant as I was in the beginning, I can honestly say it wasn't as bad as I thought. I believe my students made tremendous progress throughout the year and they were excited to put in the work. The story was entertaining as well as educational. My coach always pushed us to push our kids a little harder, in turn making them more independent and giving them the confidence they needed to succeed.
The Once program is a great addition to the instruction students are already receiving in their classroom. It was nice to see the students show significant growth and enthusiasm with the program.
It was something that gave my kids the little boost they needed while learning to read and I loved it. I just wish it was something that was implemented earlier in the year so our existing schedule had more time to build around it.
