Once Early-Reading Program's work in Sumter, South Carolina featured on WISTV

The Once Program's work in Sumter County is featured on WISTV, highlighting how kindergarten and 1st-grade students are building stronger early-literacy skills.

Reading is the foundation for learning — and in Sumter County, South Carolina, a new early literacy program is helping the district’s youngest students build stronger reading and writing skills.

The ONCE Program, now underway at several elementary schools in Sumter School District, focuses on helping kindergarten and 1st-grade students connect the sounds they hear with the letters they see on the page — an essential building block for early literacy.

Watch the full WISTV feature to see instructors, students, and school leaders talk about what the program looks like in action.

We’re grateful to Sumter’s leadership and to the instructors bringing this program to life — one 15-minute session at a time.
