End-of-Year Report: Impact of Once on K Reading Growth 23-24 as Measured by i-Ready

LXD Research's 2023-24 end-of-year analysis across three schools showed kindergarten students on Once grew from the 38th to the 67th percentile nationally on i-Ready.

Once partnered with LXD Research to support educators in understanding the impact of Once tutoring in their schools. The 2023-24 end-of-year (EOY) report analyzes three schools that implemented Once with all 168 kindergarten students and provided both beginning-of-year and end-of-year i-Ready data.

At the beginning of the year, the students’ median rank nationally was at the 38th percentile — they scored worse than 62% of the nation’s kindergarteners. By the end of the year, their median rank was at the 67th percentile — better than all but 33% of the nation’s kindergarteners.

If these students had made a year’s worth of typical growth (which is sadly not even the norm for many American students), their percentile rank would have remained at the 38th percentile. Instead, these students outpaced typical growth and accelerated well past their national peer group.

These results reflect what happens when the Science of Reading meets consistent, individualized 1:1 instruction delivered by a trusted adult, every day.
