As the classroom teacher, reading is one of the many subjects you teach your students. Your school may have adopted the Science of Reading but actually teaching it is hard. You need all of your students to say the same sounds at exactly the same time, and that’s just not always possible. Even when it is, individually assessing students’ oral reading fluency is time consuming and not something you can do every day.
Once gives you a support you’ve never had before. School support staff dedicated to your classroom provide 15 minutes of High-Dosage Tutoring in the Science of Reading each day to each participating student. Now that your students are getting a key support in learning to read one-on-one, you’ll see them progress faster and go farther in reading than you were previously able to do all on your own.
We know how much you have on your plate running your classroom, so we designed Once to be completely turnkey for you.
• We seek your input on a schedule that allows every participating student to get 15 minutes daily 1 on 1 instruction while not sacrificing core instructional time.
• Students sit next to, and work with their instructor one-on-one for 15 minutes each day, while you are working with the rest of the class. The instructor is one of your school's support staff members.
• Sessions are recorded so Once coaches can remotely provide feedback, coaching, and guidance to each school based instructor and to guarantee the curriculum is being implemented with fidelity to maximize student reading growth.
• Once coaches meet with your support staff member each week to provide feedback and to practice key components of their instruction. Over the course of a year they receive over 20 hours of coaching in the Science of Reading provided by an expert coach and are eligible to receive graduate credit at partnered universities.
